Carpets from the town of Kashan

The beauty of these carpets, produced in Kashan at the time of the Persian Renaissance is the fabric of legend. It was in Kashan that the carpets destined for the court of Shah Abbas the Great were created. These were fabulous works, knotted with gold and silver thread and bearing the name 'Shah Abbas'. Today's variation presents an oval medallion, bordered with florets and palmettes. A 'prayer' design can also sometimes be found. Kashan carpets are generally of very good quality, knotted with fine wool. Some exceptionally delicate examples can still be found.
